Farmington N.C. 1997

During a holiday on the East Coast I had the chance to attend the VW Show and Drag Race at Farmington Dragway in North Carolina.

In those days the (in)famous E.B. showed up with the freshly made Karmann Ghia with Sprintstars mounted. I knew at the first sight that I had to have a set of those wheels.
Sounds simple but it wasn´t. I didn´t quite know that the are pretty rare and hard to get.

So meanwhile I decided that I would be good to take care of the beetle and restore it.
As I don´t want you to get bored just two pictures.

First Meeting 1996

Pretty low!

This way I attended my first VW meeting in my own beetle.

Well I must admit, that I like a different style by now.
Still searching the "right" wheels..

First steps

lowering the front

and the rear..

as I couldn´t decide wich rims to use I took ´67 4,5" steelies in front and some homemade 6" ´67 styles in the rear. Tyres have been 185/55 in front and 195/60 in the rear.

I knew this wasn´t the classic Cal Look Style but at least it was close to what was called the Resto Cal Look in the Nr. 6 issue of the Super VW Magazine.

I really liked the option to put the car back to original if I just wanted to.

1996

This was the year when I bought my beetle. I found it in a local newspaper and an older couple was selling it because the man gave back his driving license as he thought he was to old to drive a car.

some little dents on the fenders and the chrome was not the best anymore, but besides that the car was in really good shape!

another on from the back. Almost unbelievable that 12 years ago digital cameras were not affordable if there have been any. So please apologise the quality of the pictures as my scanner is not the best.

Well equipped with tach Oilpressure, Voltmeter and Oiltemperature. The son of the couple had owned the car, among others, before but sadly died in a motorbike crash in the mid 80ties. His parents sold all the cars he had except of the beetle which they used as a daily driver and even to go on skiing holidays.

This is how the story begins.

How it all began

Hi there!

Now it´s even time for me to start my own blog about aircooled stuff.
I hope you´ll enjoy it.

It probably started with my fahther when he was driving around in the neigbour´s samba with his friends.

If I only could own this bus nowadays.

Well as usual for the time when I was born, my father owned his third beetle. So the first vehicle I have been riding in was this beetle. Maybe this was the start of my passion for aircooled VWs.

Years later I got the book "Aircooled Volkswagens" as a Christmas present. From that time I knew I had to own a Volkswagen one day.
